Following description taken from paper by Douglas Stein (See Notes):
Scrapbook entitled "Ebenezer Grant Papers, East Windsor Hill, CT". This is primarily a collection of Grant family documents and papers, ca. 1740-1840, with a few later records ca. 1870-1916. There are approximately 300 pieces pasted onto these scrapbook pages. Includes several deeds involving Ebenezer and Roswell Grant, David Grant, Samuel Rockwell Grant, Frederick W. Grant, Erastus Wolcott, and others.
There are military appointments for Roswell Grant (ca. 1778-1813), and Frederick W. Grant (ca. 1823-1833) plus accounts disbursements and receipts for military activities during the Revolutionary War, ca. 1778.
There are accounts and floorplans for building the "Grant Homestead", ca. 1757-1759, a land survey by Erastus Wolcott (1758), and genealogical information compiled around 1916.
Maritime documents include a vessel bill of sale for the Brigantine HARTFORD, (1761) as well as accounts for Ebenezer Grant's trade with the West Indies.
There are Grant family domestic and business accounts, including an account with John Hancock (ca. 1760). There are several family letters and notes including 3 letters from Oliver Ellsworth (Ebenezer Grant's second wife was the mother of Chief Justice Oliver Ellsworth). Ellsworth writes to Roswell Grant during the Constitutional Convention in July 1787 regarding the death of Grant's infant child within which he writes that 'the convention I think will hold a month or 6 weeks longer yet. The ardna regni you know must have time and patience." He then again in 1790 regarding the death of his mother. Also included are autograph signatures of several Connecticut Governors including Jonathan Trumbull (1778).
