First oral history interview with Mary Ann Cole, recorded by Anthony Macro. In this interview, Cole discusses her recollections of the neighbors on Main Street during her childhood, particularly Doris Rockwell, Dudley Clapp, Henry Adams, and Ralph Lasbury. She discusses prejudice against Catholics in South Windsor. She also talks about the schools she attended, working in broadleaf tobacco, and riding horses, among other topics. Cole made significant additions to this transcript after recording the interview. Mary Ann Cole was born in East Windsor in 1942, the daughter of William Francis Lacy and Mary Abbott Lacy. She moved South Windsor when she was five years old, and grew up on the north end of Main Street, South Windsor, the eldest of 11 children in her Roman Catholic family. She attended St. Mary's kindergarten, Union District School, and Ellsworth Memorial High School. After high school, she married Claudius "Butch" Cole. The couple lived in Tolland, CT for many years, before moving back to Main Street, South Windsor in 1985.
