First oral history interview with Charles Nielsen by Jean Klein, recorded April 30, 2009.
In these interviews, Nielsen discusses his life and the times in which he lived, as well as his extended family. During the interview Charlie recalls memories of his life in South Windsor and its nearby environs, including individuals and organizations. The main focus is on birding, family history and historic people, places and events in South Windsor throughout the last few centuries.
Orgnaizational or Biographical History
Charles Nielsen was born on March 13, 1922, the son of Peter Nielsen and Eveline Vibert Nielsen. He was a lifelong resident of South Windsor. He was married to Beverly Hunt Nielsen, with whom he had three sons, Charles Robert, Jr., Bruce, and Eric. Nielsen served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and worked for NuWay tobacco for more than 30 years. He was also an avid bird watcher, member of several fraternal organizations, and a communicant of the First Congregational Church of South Windsor. He died on December 1, 2012 at the age of 90.
