This interview was conducted by Betty Leland and Jean Klein in preparation for Main Street, South Windsor house tours sponsored by Wood Memorial Library & Museum to celebrate the United States bicentennial in 1976. There may have been several other people present at the time the interview was recorded. In this interview, Pelton discusses the history of houses on Main Street and their residents, as well as buildings and businesses that are no longer in existence, including pre-Revolutionary shops, the Theological Seminary, and the East Windsor Hill Academy. She talks about South Windsor's role in the Revolutionary War, the Pelton Slaughterhouse, South Windsor clockmakers, and the South Windsor Bicentennial Quilt, among other topics. |

Helen Pelton was born Helen Risley on May 24, 1903 and died in June 10, 1977. She was married to Bayard O. "Bill" Pelton and mother to Helen Pelton Bancroft. She was a lifelong resident of South Windsor, CT, and had an interest in local history. |
