Title |
Manchester Evening Herald Clippings and Photograph Collection, 1939-1990 |
Scope & Content |
This collection includes newspaper clippings and photographs (prints and negative) used in news articles. They were originally organized in manila envelopes with an individual's name, organization or business name, or named event typed on the envelope. Many of these files were apparently maintained for many years, as they have multiple clippings and photographs of the same person or organization Most of the collection relates to people or organizations in South Windsor, CT, although some are from the surrounding area. Many of the individual files are either engagement and wedding announcements or are about people who were notable for being involved in local politics, prominent in the local business community, being the perpetrator or victim of a crime, or being the victim of an accident. Some of the manila envelopes that these materials were originally filed in have additional information about the subject, such as street address and job title. Approximately half of the folders include photographic prints or negatives. Most of these are portraits or publicity-type photos that were printed in the newspapers. This collection is organized into 3 series: 1.INDIVIDUALS [1939 - 1989] 2.CHURCHES, BUSINESSES, and ORGANIZATIONS [ca.1940 - 1976] 3.EVENTS [1953 - 1990] Series 1, INDIVIDUALS [1939-1989], is arranged alphabetically by last name. Some folders contain material about more than one person from a family. In those cases, both names are noted on the folder. Names in parentheses are maiden names Series 2, PLACES of WORSHIP, BUSINESSES, and ORGANIZATIONS [ca. 1940-1976], is divided into two subseries: A.Places of worship B.Businesses and organizations Folders are arranged alphabetically within subseries. Series 3, EVENTS [1953-1990], is arranged chronologically. |
