Sherman Collins is the primary narrator. In this interview, husband and wife Sherman and Charlotte Collins discuss their home, 1271 Sullivan Ave, which used to be a schoolhouse. They also discuss their family members, including member of the extended Collins family who ran the Collins Bus Service. Other topics include their childhoods, Wapping Community Church, tobacco and dairy farming, the schools that they attended, the Sand Hill Road area, and the "Collinsville" around where Sherman and Charlotte lived. |
Orgnaizational or Biographical History |
Sherman Collins was born in South Windsor and grew up on a farm. He attended Wapping Grammar School and Ellsworth Memorial High School, and attended Tufts University for a year. After leaving Tufts, Collins joined the Army in 1948 and was stationed in Germany. After returning from Germany, he worked at Hamilton Standard for thirty-seven years. In 1954, Sherman Collins married Charlotte Anita Andross, and the two had four children. Charlotte Collins was born Charlotte Anita Andross and grew up on Main Street in South Windsor as well, where she attended Union District School and Ellsworth Memorial High School. With Sherman Collins, she has three sons and a daughter. |
