Date |
2012 |
Scope & Content |
Kevin Cooney is a professional fire fighter for the Manchester, CT fire department and a volunteer fire fighter in South Windsor, where he lives. In this written statement he documents his experiences of the snow and ice storm, Storm Alfred (also called the 2011 Halloween nor'easter), which occurred on October 29, 2011, and caused widespread damage. Cooney was on duty in Manchester when the storm began and responded to numerous calls about downed trees and power lines. In addition, the Manchester fire station where he worked was blocked by fallen trees. When he was off-duty from Manchester, Cooney responded to calls in South Windsor with the South Windsor volunteer fire department. Cooney's home in South Windsor was without power for a week, although he had a generator to provide some electricity and heat. He also donated a CD of photos from the event. |
