This house is known as the Clapp House because John S. Clapp tore down the old house and built this Greek revival style home about 1857. The house is 5 bays wide with a center entrance. Occupants of the older home were Jonathan Birge, lawyers Godfrey Scarborough and Selah B. Treat, and Erastus Ellsworth who permitted Dr. Elihah Reed to live there. Owners after the Clapp family included Calvin Z. Parmelee (owner of the East Windsor Hill Store & Post Office); Ellsworth Sperry (who bought house about 1916 and remodeled it); Robert & Irene Brihan and Walter & Ellen Fitzpatrick. |
