Hartford Audubon Society Collection |
Date |
1915-2015 |
Scope & Content |
In the Fall of 1999 Wood Memorial Library accepted on permanent loan some 300 volumes from the Hartford Audubon Society, which has had a long association with South Windsor. The arrangement fulfilled the needs of both organizations: that of the Library to have a comprehensive collection on birds that dovetails with our mounted specimens; and that of the Society to make their books more readily available, not only to their members, but to a wider public. (See "WINDOWS ON WOOD"-Vol XI, No 3-Fall 1999 for more details-Copy in Box 1 of 5). Part of the collection includes early records of the Hartford Audubon Society: their membership lists, field meeting notes," notation of bird sightings, minutes of the meetings of the Society, Newsletters, etc., all of which are important research documents. Also included in this collection are the journals of Walter Charsky (a member of the Hartford Audubon Society) as he recorded them from 1926-1997. |
