Title |
East Windsor Hill Academy |
Scope & Content |
East Windsor Hill Academy was built before 1816 and stood between 1810 and 1828 Main Street, South Windsor CT. Faculty members from the Theological Institute of Connecticut served on the Board. The Academy consisted of two floors. The upper floor was used as the Academy; the lower floor was the District #1 School. Many young men went to Yale and Harvard, and many young women went to finishing schools. When funds diminished, the Board of the Academy decided to close rather than operate in diminished capacity. Prior to the building of the Academy, the District #1 school was a brick building south of the South Windsor Board of Education Building. It was 18 feet square with large chimney and fireplace at one end. Rev. Timothy Edwards preached here and taught classics to men, many of whom went to Yale. |
