This is an oral history interview of Janet Prior, recorded on September 15, 2015 by Linda Sunderland. In this interview, Janet Prior discusses her childhood and youth in South Windsor, including the operations of the Spielman family farm, the various schools she attended, and her brothers Arthur Spielman, Jr. and Robert Spielman. She also talks about her parents and grandparents, as well as her husband David Prior's family, among other topics.

Janet Prior was born into a South Windsor farming family in 1938, the daughter of Agnes Brandenburg Spielman and Arthur Spielman, Sr. She grew up helping her parents raise farm animals along with tobacco and other crops. She attended school at the Pleasant Valley Schoolhouse, Wapping Grammar School, and Ellsworth Memorial High School. In 1958 she married David Prior, with whom she had two children, Erica and David, Jr. During her career, she worked at Southern New England Telephone Company, as well as in several South Windsor School District schools, where she served as a reading aid and secretary. Post-retirement from the phone company, Prior babysits for her granddaughters, as well as raises and sells organic asparagus.
