Historic Resources Inventory, completed in 2006, describes this as a two-story Georgian style home built by Noah Wells and his father Moses in 1790. Facade is 5/5 bays wide around center entrance. "Hipped roof is punctuated by two exterior brick chimneys located on the north and south elevations." Semi-circular porch is on southern side. The house closely resembles the Eliaim (possibly Eliakim) Cook house at 1575 Main Street and the John Watson house at 1876 Main Street. Elizabeth Wells (wife of Noah) purchased land in 1789 and house was built by Noah and his father Moses in 1790. Noah Wells served in the Revolutionary War and later built a shop north of the house. In 1804, the house and shop passed to Jesse Charlton. The next owner was the family of Jeremiah McGrath. Current owners are Anthony and Virginia Macro. (Note: reference to similar house should be 1595 Main Street not 1575.) |
