Color photograph (3 12"H x 5"W) taped to page with typed note "Foster-Parmelee House -- 819-821 Main Street (J.E. Shepard)". Second copy has additional notes, compiled by Myrtle R. Odlum, regarding the history of the house. The building was built by Benjamin Skinner and moved to present location by D. J. Foster. It was the original post office until 1959 when the Bissell Post Office was built. Horace E. Parmelee started general store; Peter Bossen ran store 1904-1962; son Robert ran store until 1974 Jun 11; Inspiration House with Mrs. Robert Bossen (Betty) and Winston O. Abbott. The horse barn in back of store was used by the Baptist Church. Round stone step is scalloped and possibly is from tanners wheel. Store and building purchased by Shepard Corporation in 1985. |
