Typed sheet with banner "South Windsor Celebration; East Windsor Hill Post Office, Historic Picnic." It is typed on both sides. First side SETTLEMENT describes the Podunk and Scantic tribes, fearing the Mohawks, Pequots and Narragansetts, wrote to the English in Boston asking them to settle in CT. The Bissell family were first to build homes about 1635; Main Street was a road way by 1640 and officially laid out by 1672. The reverse MAIN STREET provides an overview of South Windsor history. It describes the post office and history, first stage coach route on Main Street, first meeting house, the elm trees along Main Street and famous families such as Ebenezer Grant. |
