Color photograph ( 3 1/2"H x 5"W) taped to page with caption "Edwards Cemetery -- Main Street (OLD BURYING GROUND)." Typed information compiled by Edith Vibert states that graveyards were laid out as close as possible to the meeting house. The first meeting house on this side of the Great River was a small frame structure erected in 1695 on crest of sandy knoll. Rev. Mr. Timothy Edwards is buried under a so-called old-time table. A record of all the burials have been preserved (Stiles p.12-13). The reverse side contains information on the Memorial Gateway dedicated 1929 Jun 25 and reports that chairman Miss Anne B. Jennings was instrumental in having a pamphlet printed. Copy included without typed information. |
