Photocopy of newspaper article from "Journal Inquirer" 1966 Jul 14 reports on the history of Deacon Abner Reed. He published a children's spelling and reading book which contained original cuts, carved by him from apple tree wood. He grained chairs, engraved bank-bills and maps, designed wood-cuts, lettered coffins, gilded carriages, ornamented "Captain Watson's drums", engraved a clock plate for Eli Terry, and mended umbrellas. Apprentices included William Mason, Asaph Wilson, Ralph Rawden, Oliver Pelton, Frederick Bissel, Ebenezer F. Reed, Alfred Daggett, Lewis Fairchild, Vistus Balch, William Phelps, John Barber. |
