Description |
Historic Resources Inventory, completed in 2005, describes this as two-and-one-half story modified Federal style house, known as Adam style. Architectural features include ridge is parallel to Newberry Road, narrow brick chimney, facade has 5/5 bays, windows 6/6 double hung, and a series of ells have been extended to rear of house. The house was built before 1805 by Arnold Allen and operated as a tavern by Allen and Joseph Phelps. Other residents included J. Watson Vibert, Charles, Walter and Horace Vibert. "Joseph Moseley Newberry purchased house for son Leslie who was Town Clerk and had office in the house." One acre of land west of property was location of a cannery. (NOTE: Samuel P. Newberry was father of Leslie W. Newberry, who was Town Clerk.) |
