Description |
Two typed pages that contain similar information, state that South Windsor gained permission to establish a burying ground in 1707 and that Thomas Morton was first to be interred July 30 after falling from cherry tree. However, one lists the year as 1706 and the other 1708. Early stones were red sandstone native to the Connecticut Valley region. A tablestone or tomb-table (a horizontal marker supported on carved legs) is an indication of the most prominent status in a community. Such a marker stands of the grave of Reverend Timothy Edwards, the first minister. |
