Description |
Photocopy of typed card with heading "Shipbuilding con't" and handwritten Grant. Card states Capt. Ebenezer Grant ---crossed off-- built several ships at the yard. "In 1728 he was interested in Colonial West Indies trade and was considered the foremost and wealthiest merchant." Cargos included tobacco, pelts, pork, beef, tallow, cider and horses; imports included rum, molasses and spices. "In 1767 he had a store south of his house and sold dry goods." During the Revolutionary War prisoners were held here. Handwritten addition states "Co. John Watson prior to 1814 built several vessels here. |
