Photocopy of two typed note cards with the following information. First Card: Nathan Day sold store to David Bissell in 1727; there were several persons named David Bissell. In 1771, Aaron Bissell and Samuel Tudor were doing business and Aaron ran the Tavern next door. Later Aaron Bissell and Eli B. Haskell worked together. Story of early 1900 snow storm that stalled the trolley bound for Springfield so passengers spent the night in the store. Large potbellied stove provided warmth. Aaron postmaster 1810 Dec 31 and Edgar Bissell postmaster 1825 Apr 26. Second Card: "This was taken about 1900, showing barn where the stage coach stopped to change horses, the Tavern, the store and post office." (Assume it refers to a picture) Quote from diary of John Adams who was travelling through East Windsor on his way to New York..."I was in Paradise today." |
