Two pages photocopy, front and back, of typed card with note in red "Helen Pelton Card File" stating that Deacon Abner Reed lived here and he was an engraver who began repairing, and then designing, name plates for saddler Mr. May of East Windsor Hill. In 1793, he went to Albany NY to teach school; he married there in 1795. Reed retuned to South Windsor, closed the tavern that his son, Abner L., had constructed. The upstairs hall was used for lectures, exhibits, fairs, and dances. "He was handsome, tall and quite erect, even to the day of his death." Handwritten addition states that Alfred Bemis owned place and sold to Edward Bancroft. |
