Occupant: Mrs. Theodore Bancroft (91 years old). Date of Photo: May 30, 1922. Built by John Watson 1750-60. Watson came here poor boy and became wealthiest man in town. A West Indies trader and shipbuilder. Owned tract 1/2 x 3 miles. House in Bancroft family 70 years. Before the house was completed Watson, who was near sighted, squinted at it from across the street and told a neighbor he wished the third story were in h---." |
