Cylindrical walk basket by Henry Harris, possibly Jim Harris, circa 1880. Demi-john base, inside ballhandle, warps swabbed blue and Spanish brown. Basket saturated with grease or a preservative? (doesn't smell like a preservative) Warps are wide and quite thick. Weft unnaturally thin; has led to some breakage. Attributed to Henry Harris, Schaghticoke, circa 1880 Black ash, Spanish brown, launding bluing. |
