Description |
This is one of two Chapin school high chests with convincing histories in Massachusetts, each by a different craftsman. While the maker followed Chapin shop construction practices closely, the design and decorations show many minor deviations. Most apparent are the single turned finial and the simple Wethersfield-style shells. The finial and gilded brasses are all original. |
