Susie Lathrop Briggs Long Hill Quilt |
Title |
Susie Lathrop Briggs Long Hill Quilt: Pillows |
Date |
1893, 1975 |
Description |
Two throw pillows made from penny square style quilt squares sewn in red thread on a white background. The squares from which these pillows were made were in the same bag as the squares which became the "Long Hill Quilt." The squares were created by the Long Hill Missionary Society in 1893. They were found by one of the original members of that Society, Susie Lathrop Briggs, in 1975, who was then in her 90's. The squares were subsequently given to WML and the quilters there pieced the squares together under the leadership of Arline Bidwell. It has hung in the Library ever since. See 2007.15.001, a booklet that Jean Klein wrote about the quilt, for more information. |
