The Arnold (or Arnel) Allen House was built before 1805 and thought to have been operated as a tavern by Allen and Joseph Phelps. It a two-and-one-half story modified Federal style house, known as Adam style. Many of the bricks used in construction are hand made. Other residents included J. Watson Vibert and his sons, Charles, Walter and Horace. Newberry family lived in the house for over a hundred years after Joseph Moseley Newberry purchased house. Leslie W. Newberry, who was Town Clerk, had office in the house. One acre of land west of this property was location of cannery. |
